How to improve your Website Visibility on Google – Step-by-Step Guide

Updated: February 12, 2026

If you don’t have a website, your business is missing big time!

It’s extremely important to remember that is a digital era, and we need to keep up with it. With Google being the go-to search engine for millions of users worldwide, ensuring that your website ranks well in search results is essential for attracting potential customers.

Step-By-Step Guide: Increase your Visibility on Google:

Here is a step-by-step guide to help your Business improve your Website’s visibility on Google search:

1. Conduct Keyword Research

When we start identifying relevant keywords and phrases that potential customers are likely to use when searching for products or services in your industry, we create an easier way for Google to suggest our website pages to those searching. There are different tools just like: Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Ahrefs to discover high-volume keywords with relatively low competition.

What is a Keyword?

But first, what in the digital world is a keyword? (did you see what I did there?). A keyword or a keyphrase is a word or a phrase that summarizes the main topic of any piece of content, this acts as a search term. What do I mean by it? When you go and search for something online, the first thing you do, after opening your search engine, is to type a specific set of words to find answers, places, recipes, ingredients, services, etc.

Every single page of your website should have a different keyword/keyphrase to focus on. This way, they won’t be compiting between them.

2. Optimize On-Page Elements

I know, seeing the words on-page elements seems complicated! But it’s important for your Business to know and understand!

One of the On-page elements of your website is: SEO Title and Meta Description, where you need to craft a compelling and concise description for each page of your website, different in between so they don’t compete with each other.

Remember to include your Target Keywords or Keyphrases naturally to improve relevancy and click-through rates, just don’t overdo it, remember you want Google engines to know about your business, but you NEED your potential clients to, actually, stay and read your business offers.

The other On-page element per page on your website is the Heading 1 (H1), this type of Heading tells Google about the main topic of that page! It should be the First Text on your page and each page should have only one of these types of Headings, H1. Ensure that your H1 tags are descriptive and contain your primary keyword/keyphrase to signal relevance to search engines.

Only ONE H1 per page!

3. Create High-Quality Content:

Beside your main pages, you can create informational pages within your website, such as blog posts that addresses the needs and interests of your target audience.

You can incorporate your chosen keywords strategically throughout your content while maintaining your text readable with a natural flow. Remember, your content is not just for Google to identify and select, but is also, for your potential clients to find.

4. Optimize your Images:

Ok, we are talking about Optimization of your content within your website, and that includes your Photos, Images, and Videos! How you can do it? First of all your photos/images must be under 500KB but closer to 300KB, with a resolution of 72ppi, which you can put it a bit higher.

When you add your image to your hosting provider, remember to add content to the option for Image Alt Text. This means that you will assign descriptive alt text to all images on your website, you can include keywords where appropriate. Why? Because Alt Text helps search engines understand the content of your images, improving the chances of appearing in image search results.

Choose wisely the Name of your Files! Using descriptive file names for your images that include relevant keywords is important too. Avoid using “123.jpg” instead opt for descriptive names that reflect the images’ content: “Calgary-city-panoramic-view-with-Ana-Tamez-owner-of-ATamez-Design-Branding-agency-posing-for-photoshoot.jpg”.

Did you noticed what I did there? I included city name, my name, my business name, and what my business is about, while describing what was happening in a photo as title.

5. Improve Page Load Speed

Optimize your website’s performance by minimizing or making smaller file sizes, leveraging browser caching, and using content delivery networks (CDNs).

A faster-loading website not only enhances user experience but also improves search engine rankings. Remember that time when a website took a little too long to upload and you got frustated… Well, that could have being your website and your potential client…

6. Build Quality Backlinks

Earn backlinks from reputable and relevant websites within your industry. Quality backlinks signal to search engines that your website is credible and authoritative, potentially boosting your rankings in search results.

How? By talking on their podcasts, getting an interview for articles, participating in community events, etc. Ask them to include the link to your website, it can a link to your home page, or even a sales page.

7. Monitor and Analyze Performance

Regularly monitor your website’s performance using tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Track key metrics such as organic traffic, keywords ranking, and user engagement to identify areas for improvement and measure the effectiveness of your optimization efforts.
